What is UPS for CCTV
UPS for CCTV is a UPS designed specifically for CCTV camera deployment scenarios. Different from general UPS, UPS for CCTV should focus on the stable operation of UPS in outdoor complex environments. In addition, the power supply for general video surveillance scenarios is based on POE, and POE is used as the main output mode to power CCTV cameras. At the same time, based on the diversity of CCTV camera backhaul networks deployed outdoors, multiple backhaul modes such as 4G/5G, Ethernet, Fiber, and GPON are considered. This makes it not only a power supply device, but also an edge network and power all in one device. Edge Span U30 LSP-3 is a UPS for CCTV designed for 3 cameras or less in CCTV scenarios. As a lightweight IP65 Outdoor UPS, it is based on a 100w mini UPS with indutrial level design, with its own battery inside the shell, and supports one-stop deployment. In addition, CCTV camera scenarios are often part of smart city projects. Edge Span U30 LSP-3 can also provide DC12V/DC24V and RS485 integrated interfaces for IoT sensors according to customer needs.
Features of UPS for CCTV
Lightweight IP65/NEMA4X
The scenario of 1-3 cameras requires CCTV UPS with lightweight and fast deployment. However, we cannot ignore the environmental challenges faced by CCTV UPS when it is deployed outdoors. For example, various rural areas, rainforests, seaside, high humidity environments, etc. pose challenges to the ongoing system. Therefore, the UPS for CCTV designed by Edgeware are all IP65/NEMA4X or above.
Rugged and Durable Design
CCTV UPS needs to operate outdoors for many years, exposed to wind, rain and even typhoons. The other shells must be strong and durable so that the whole system can operate in outdoor environment for a long time. So we designed the shell of the whole system to be rugged and durable to meet this challenge.
No Rust
Rust is a serious challenge for CCTV UPS. CCTV UPS needs to run outdoors for a long time. If there is a problem with the material process of the whole system, it will cause rust. The problem of rust affects not only the appearance but also causes water seepage over time, damaging the shell and the internal equipment. We attach great importance to the rust-free design of the whole machine. The whole shell is an integrated cast aluminum shell, which fundamentally avoids the possibility of rust.
Surge Protection
Another major challenge in the outdoor environment is surge protection. UPS for CCTV requires a comprehensive design and consideration of the lightning protection and grounding of the entire system. For power input and power output, lightning protection of 20Ka level or above is required. For other signal interfaces, such as Ethernet port and signal port, lightning protection is also required. This allows the entire system to work stably and long-term outdoors.
Whole Sytem Natural Heat Dissipation
Traditional UPS generally uses fans for heat dissipation. Traditional CCTV UPS uses fans to dissipate heat by placing the UPS in an outdoor power cabinet. However, this is not a good idea because the fan itself is a mechanical structure and will inevitably be damaged with a certain probability during long-term operation, thus requiring on-site replacement. However, CCTV UPS is usually deployed outdoors. The on-site maintenance and replacement costs for scenarios such as on wall, on pole, or in rural areas are very high. In areas with high labor costs, the OPEX of the entire network will inevitably be too high. Therefore, we believe that natural heat dissipation of the entire system is the most suitable heat dissipation method for CCTV UPS.
POE+/POE++
The best power supply for video surveillance cameras is POE, which fully guarantees the reliability of the system and reduces the complexity of the networking. Outdoor UPS for CCTV must include POE+ (802.3at) and POE++ (802.3bt) functions, so that a single system can power the entire CCTV camera system. High-definition cameras and those with advanced features such as PTZ (Pan-Tilt-Zoom) may demand higher power, making POE++ (802.3bt) an essential feature.

Application of UPS for CCTV
Edge Span U30 LSP-3 UPS for CCTV can be applied in the following two aspects:
(1) Video surveillance scenario, connecting 1-3 CCTV cameras. The whole system has 1 802.3bt, which supports a maximum of 60W. There are also 2 802.3at channels, which support a maximum of 30W. The POE power of the whole machine is 90W. Because the Edge Span U30 has one 100w mini UPS embedded so just enough to meet the needs of the scenario without paying extra costs for unnecessary capacity.The POE switch board of Edge Span U30 also has complete layer 2 features and can be used as a camera aggregation node.
(2) IoT sensor access scenario, connecting 2 IoT sensors. Provide power and sensor integration for IoT sensors. Our UPS for CCTV has edge control and programmability, which can integrate IoT data reading into the Edgeware software platform. It can also organize the data into MQTT format and send it to the customer’s software platform.
Port Configuration
The above picture shows the port configuration of UPS for CCTV Edge Span U30 LSP-3. The whole machine has three LAN ports 1000Base-T, one of which is 802.3bt 60W, and the other two are 802.3at 30W.
The whole machine connects to two sensors through the IoT sensor port, which can provide DC12V or DC24Vpower and RS485. This port is not configured by default and is configured according to the needs of the customer scenario.
The Uplink port can be configured as 1000Base-X or 1000Base-T

IoT Sensor Integration
Edgeware believes that UPS for CCTV is not just a power node. Its location in the entire network makes it a natural edge node, responsible for connecting to various devices. UPS Remote Monitoring and Management
As the core component of UPS for CCTV, remote monitoring and early warning of UPS working status are very important. Edge Span 360 LSP-3 has a built-in core edge control unit, which can monitor the UPS status such as input voltage, input current, operating power, UPS temperature, PFC voltage, output voltage, output current, battery voltage, battery current, output power and other important operating parameters, and reflect them to the software platform, so that customers can monitor UPS operation in real time and view historical operating status.
Battery Management System
The life and operation of the battery are also very important for the operation of the UPS for CCTV, especially when there are a large number of sites and power outages are very frequent. After 5-10 years of site deployment, it is inevitable that some batteries will need to be replaced because they have exceeded the usage limit. At this time, if there is a battery management system in the UPS for CCTV, its status can be remotely monitored to understand the number of charge and discharge cycles to determine the maintenance plan. The built-in BMS of Edge Span U30 can provide you with various information such as battery voltage, current, power, power, number of cycles, single cell voltage, cell voltage balance, etc. to help you understand its operation status through our software platform at the maintenance center.
Envrionment Management
The deployment environment of UPS for CCTV power supply is relatively complex, so Edge Span has built-in temperature and humidity sensors that can synchronize real-time conditions to the software platform.
POE Switch Management and Control
The POE switch board embedded in the system will be managed by our software platform. The port status can be remotely managed through the software platform. The POE port can be remotely controlled to shut down and restart. Based on this function, the CCTV camera can be restarted remotely to solve the camera freeze problem in most cases.
Third Party Software Platform Integration
Although Edgeware has its own software platform, customers often have their own considerations for the management of the entire network and have their own management system or OSS. Customization Development

(1) Embed the customer’s equipment in Edge Span U30 enclosure, such as replacing the POE switch board with the customer’s POE switch. Because Edge Span U30 enclosure is relatively small, so we need to check carefully with you case by case
(2) Decrease the battery capacity
(3) Customize the control logic of the whole machine. For example:
A. When the battery capacity is less than 40%, close several specific POE ports to put the whole system into power saving mode.
Read a specific sensor, set an alarm, and turn on a certain device.
