What is UPS for CCTV Camera
UPS for CCTV camera is an uninterruptible power supply specially designed for CCTV Camera. Analyzing the deployment scenarios of CCTV cameras, we can find that most of them are deployed in outdoor environments, and a small part are deployed indoors. Therefore, UPS for CCTV camera should be specially designed and optimized for complex outdoor deployment environments. On the other hand, in large CCTV camera projects, POE (Power Over Ethernet) is used to power CCTV cameras, so UPS for CCTV camera must have POE+ (802.3at) and POE++ (802.3bt) functions. Finally, UPS for CCTV camera is often a site aggregation node for 3-8 cameras. It is a natural layer 2 aggregation node and needs to have a layer 2 switch sometimes perform VLAN and QOS these kind of funtions. Ingress Protection with IP65/NEMA4X
The deployment area of UPS for CCTV camera is very complex. The environment in general urban areas and towns is controllable, but once it is deployed in a high humidity and high salinity environment such as the seaside. Or in a rainforest with high humidity and many flying insects. If the traditional IP55-level outdoor cabinet is used to build the UPS for CCTV camera system, it will not be able to operate stably for a long time in these harsh environments. Therefore, Edgeware insists on designing the UPS for CCTV camera with IP65/NEMA4X ingress protection to ensure that the system can still operate stably in different challenging environments.
Enclosure with Rugged Design
Because the deployment environment of UPS for CCTV is complex, its shell should be designed as rugged design to be able to cope with the challenges and impacts in complex outdoor environments. We designed our system to have an IK08 protection level so that general impacts in the wild will not affect the system.
Rust-Proof
When UPS for CCTV is deployed in a high humidity and rainy environment, the rusting problem will not only affect the appearance of the equipment, but in many cases it can even corrode the entire system. Imagine if it is a traditional IP55 outdoor cabinet, then first of all, the galvanized steel or even stainless steel of the cabinet itself will rust under long-term outdoor deployment. In severe cases, the rust can even damage the cabinet and cause water leakage. In addition, if the system is IP55-level ingress protection, important components in the system will be affected by the high humidity environment and cause short circuits, rust and other problems. Therefore, Edgeware insists that a reliable UPS for CCTV should be Rust-free. Edgeware’s product shell is formed by a cast aluminum shell in one step, and aluminum is naturally rust-proof, thus solving the rusting problem.
Surge Protection
Another major challenge in the outdoor environment is surge protection. UPS for CCTV camera requires a comprehensive design and consideration of the lightning protection and grounding of the entire system. For power input and power output, lightning protection of 20Ka level or above is required. For other signal interfaces, such as Ethernet port and signal port, lightning protection is also required. This allows the entire system to work stably and long-term outdoors.
Natural Heat Dissipation
Natural heat dissipation is very important for UPS for CCTV camera. Because most UPS for CCTV camera systems are deployed outdoors, and the maintenance cost of outdoor environment is very high. UPS systems based on FAN cooling are mechanical parts, which are easy to be damaged, resulting in high maintenance costs at the site. Outdoor UPS systems based on Natural heat dissipation can be maintenance-free for a long time, thus greatly reducing the maintenance cost at the site and saving OPEX.
High Temperature Resistant Long Life Battery
The most vulnerable and core component of the UPS for CCTV camera is the backup battery for camera system. The battery must be resistant to high temperatures and have a long life. Lithium batteries usually meet these characteristics. Lead-acid batteries are not suitable for outdoor high-temperature environments.
POE+/POE++
The best power supply for CCTV cameras is POE, which fully guarantees the reliability of the system and reduces the complexity of the entire network. Outdoor UPS for CCTV cameras must include POE+ (802.3at) and POE++ (802.3bt) functions, so that a single system can power the entire CCTV camera system. High-definition cameras and those with advanced features such as PTZ (Pan-Tilt-Zoom) may demand higher power, making POE++ (802.3bt) an essential feature.
Remote Monitoring and Management
UPS for CCTV cameras are deployed in remote areas, and the maintenance cost is extremely high. When the number of sites increases, it will be difficult to know the working status of the sites without a complete remote monitoring and management software platform. Application of UPS for CCTV Camera
CCTV Camera Site
UPS for CCTV camera can be used as an access site for CCTV cameras to provide power backup and traffic aggregation for 1-8 CCTV cameras including PTZ and bullet cameras. Note that we recommend Edge Span U60 LSP-7 for scenarios with more than 3 CCTV cameras. For less than 3 cameras, it is recommended to use Edge Span series 4-port or less UPS for CCTV camera to make the entire design and procurement more cost-effective.
WIFI AP Access or Aggregation Site
Edge Span U60 UPS for CCTV camera can also provide power and traffic aggregation for WIFI AP. For most WIFI APs, 802.3at and 802.3bt are available.
Smart City Sensor Site
Edge Span U60 UPS for CCTV camera can provide energy and backhaul for smart city sensor sites. If customers need to add special requirements such as DC12V, DC24V, RS485 interface, etc., we can customize it according to the scenario.

Port Configuration
As shown in the figure above, the port configuration of Edge Span U60 LSP-7 UPS for CCTV Camera. There are 7 LAN Port 1000Base-T, of which two ports support 802.3bt 110W and five ports support 802.3at 30W. In addition, the uplink port is generally configured as 2*1000Base-X SFP ports, but it can also be configured as 2*1000 Base-T ports according to customer needs. It can also be configured as one 1000Base-T and one 1000Base-X.
If the customer needs to add POE to the uplink port, it can be customized according to the customer’s needs. We found that there are many scenarios where customers need to add passive POE to the uplink port to match the POE standard requirements of the uplink microwave.

UPS Remote Monitoring and Management
As the core component of UPS for CCTV camera, remote monitoring and early warning of UPS working status are very important. Edge Span U60 LSP-7 has a built-in core edge control unit, which can monitor the UPS status such as input voltage, input current, operating power, UPS temperature, PFC voltage, output voltage, output current, battery voltage, battery current, output power and other important operating parameters, and reflect them to the software platform, so that customers can monitor UPS operation in real time and view historical operating status.
Battery Management System
The life and operation of the battery are also very important for the operation of the UPS for CCTV camera, especially when there are a large number of sites and power outages are very frequent. After 5-10 years of site deployment, it is inevitable that some batteries will need to be replaced because they have exceeded the usage limit. At this time, if there is a battery management system in the UPS for CCTV camera, its status can be remotely monitored to understand the number of charge and discharge cycles to determine the maintenance plan. Envrionment Management
The deployment environment of UPS for CCTV Camera power supply is relatively complex, so Edge Span has built-in temperature and humidity sensors that can synchronize real-time conditions to the software platform.
POE Switch Management and Control
The POE switch board embedded in the system will be managed by our software platform. The port status can be remotely managed through the software platform. The POE port can be remotely controlled to shut down and restart. Based on this function, the CCTV camera can be restarted remotely to solve the camera freeze problem in most cases.
