What is CCTV Camera Cabinet?

The figure above shows a typical CCTV camera cabinet deployment scenario. It is mainly deployed in the edge network. Its downlink will be connected to the CCTV camera, generally with 1-8 channels. Some scenarios will also incorporate some WIFI APs or IoT sensors. The uplink of CCTV cameras is generally connected to the aggregation network through optical fiber. If there is no optical fiber in the area, 4G/5G, Starlink, or P2MP Wireless link solutions may also be used. The main functions of CCTV camera cabinet are as follows:

(1) Uplink and downlink traffic aggregation and forwarding

The downlink of CCTV camera cabinet has various types of cameras or other devices. The traffic is aggregated through Layer 2 traffic inside the CCTV camera cabinet and finally forwarded through its uplink interface. In the case of some services that require special QOS guarantees, QOS management will also be performed.

(2) Power backup

CCTV camera cabinet is generally equipped with UPS and batteries. When the power grid is offline, the UPS discharges the battery to ensure the normal operation of the entire system. This prevents the CCTV camera network from being affected by the instability of the power grid.

(3) Lightning protection and protection

Because CCTV camera cabinet is located outdoors, it generally has relatively complete lightning protection and grounding protection to prevent internal equipment from being affected by external lightning. At the same time, the equipment is generally IP55 level protection, and there is also IP65 level protection depending on the scenario.

(4) IoT sensor access

In some scenarios, IoT sensor and CCTV camera are co-located. In this case, CCTV camera cabinet also needs to be connected to IoT sensors.
