What is CCTV UPS
CCTV UPS is an uninterruptible power supply designed specifically for video surveillance camera scenarios. Unlike general UPS, CCTV UPS is often deployed in outdoor environments, and the power 300W is sufficient to meet the working needs of battery backup for camera system. The general UPS on the market is usually suitable for indoor environments, and the power is 1KVA or even higher, which is unnecessary for CCTV camera scenarios,also increase heat dissipation and make system more complex. For CCTV UPS scenarios, we have developed the Edge Span U60 LSP-4 series of CCTV UPS specifically for scenarios with 4 or fewer cameras. In order to meet the needs of outdoor use, CCTV UPS should be completely waterproof and have a protection level of IP65 or above. In addition, as the main means of powering CCTV cameras, it should provide POE+ (802.3at max 30W) and POE++ (802.3bt max 110W). In addition, its CCTV UPS itself should be used as a layer 2 aggregation node to provide complete layer 2 switching functions. Finally, CCTV UPS should be deployed as a whole device, with integrated monitoring and management. No more traditional outdoor cabinet assembly and integration method.
Features of CCTV UPS
IP65/NEMA4X Level Protection
CCTV UPS should have IP65/NEMA4X level protection. CCTV cameras are deployed in very complex environments, usually outdoors. Humidity, high-salinity air, and other conditions have a significant impact on the stability of the equipment. Most CCTV cameras are designed with IP65 or higher ingress protection. Therefore, as a power supply for CCTV cameras, it must have IP65 or higher protection capabilities to ensure the stability of the entire CCTV solution.
Impact-Resistant Housing Design
The design of CCTV UPS housing must take into account how to ensure that the entire system will not be easily damaged by external influences when it is deployed outdoors all year round. Therefore, impact-resistant housing with rugged system design is necessary. Our products have an overall IK08 protection level.
No risk of rust
When a CCTV UPS is deployed outdoors for 5-10 years, it will face the risk of rusting even if it uses rust-proof steel materials such as 304 stainless steel, not to mention materials such as galvanized steel. When CCTV UPS is deployed at the seaside, border forests, etc., the challenge is even greater. Therefore, in terms of design, we believe that the entire system must be completely rust-proof. The CCTV UPS designed by Edgeware uses a one-time cast aluminum shell, and the material determines that it has no risk of rusting.
Lightning protection and Grounding
When CCTV UPS is installed in an outdoor environment, it will be threatened by lightning. Lightning can have a fatal impact on key components of the equipment, such as induction lightning damage or surge. Therefore, CCTV UPS must have a good lightning protection design. At the same time, we strive to give customers guidance on grounding so that the entire system is properly grounded. Poor grounding will render all good lightning protection designs ineffective.
Natural Heat Dissipation
Natural heat dissipation is very important for CCTV UPS. Because most UPS for CCTV camera systems are deployed outdoors, and the maintenance cost of outdoor environment is very high. UPS systems based on FAN cooling are mechanical parts, which are easy to be damaged, resulting in high maintenance costs at the site. Outdoor UPS systems based on Natural heat dissipation can be maintenance-free for a long time, thus greatly reducing the maintenance cost at the site and saving OPEX.
Lithium Battery with High Temperature Tolerance and High Power Density
General UPS uses lead-acid batteries and AGM batteries. These types of batteries are not suitable for outdoor use. Because the outdoor ambient temperature is much higher than the operating temperature of these types of batteries, and the lead-acid battery is large in size, which will inevitably increase the size of the entire system. Outdoors, if a CCTV UPS is too large, it will greatly increase the installation and transportation costs. Therefore, we insist on using high temperature resistant, high capacity density lithium batteries.
POE+/POE++
POE+ (802.3at) and POE++ (802.3bt) are commonly used to power video surveillance cameras. Now more and more PTZ cameras on the market require higher power supplies such as 110W. Therefore, as a CCTV UPS, it is necessary to provide stable POE+/POE++ functions, and POE++ should meet the latest PTZ requirements to reach 110W.
Monitoring and Management from Software Platform
CCTV UPS is the core component of CCTV network. The operation status of its battery, UPS and POE switch should be remotely monitored and managed by the software platform. Edgeware has designed complete monitoring and management in CCTV UPS. We have our own software platform Convergence V2 software platform. We can also report the monitoring and management information to the customer’s third-party software platform.

Port Configuration
As shown in the figure above, the port configuration of Edge Span U60 LSP-4 CCTV UPS. There are 4 LAN Port 1000Base-T, of which two ports support 802.3bt 110W and two ports support 802.3at 30W. In addition, the uplink port is generally configured as 1*1000Base-X SFP ports, but it can also be configured as 1*1000 Base-T ports according to customer needs.
If the customer needs to add POE to the uplink port, it can be customized according to the customer’s needs. We found that there are many scenarios where customers need to add passive POE to the uplink port to match the POE standard requirements of the uplink microwave.

UPS Remote Monitoring and Management
CCTV UPS Edge Span U60 LSP-4 included one Edge Control unit, through it UPS can report input voltage, input current, operating power, UPS temperature, PFC voltage, output voltage, output current, battery voltage, battery current, output power and other important operating parameters to software platform, so that customers can monitor UPS operation in real time and view historical operating status.
Battery Management System
As battery backup for camera system,the operating status of the battery is very important for CCTV UPS, so our batteries are equipped with a built-in Battery Management System that can report the battery voltage, current, power, power, number of cycles, single cell voltage, cell voltage balance, etc. to the software platform, so that customers can remotely know the battery operating status.
Envrionment Management
CCTV UPS Edge Span has built-in temperature and humidity sensors that can synchronize real-time conditions to the software platform.
POE Switch Management and Control
The POE switch board embedded in the system will be managed by our software platform. The port status can be remotely managed through the software platform. The POE port can be remotely controlled to shut down and restart. Based on this function, the CCTV camera can be restarted remotely to solve the camera freeze problem in most cases.
Third Party Software Platform Integration
Although Edgeware has its own software platform, customers often have their own considerations for the management of the entire network and have their own management system or OSS. Customization Development

(1) Embed the customer’s equipment in Edge Span U60 enclosure, such as replacing the POE switch board with the customer’s POE switch
(2) Increase or decrease the battery capacity
(3) Customize the control logic of the whole machine. For example:
A. When the battery capacity is less than 40%, close several specific POE ports to put the whole machine into power saving mode.
Read a specific sensor, set an alarm, and turn on a certain device.
