What is DC UPS POE?

DC UPS POE is a DC UPS designed to provide power backup for POE terminals. It is usually designed with 802.3at or 802.3bt POE functions according to customer needs. DC UPS is usually designed with DC48V voltage to match the voltage defined by the POE standard. DC UPS POE usually has a lithium battery embedded to provide power backup for the entire system when the power grid is offline.

What is POE?

Power over Ethernet (PoE) describes any of several standards or ad hoc systems that pass electric power along with data on twisted-pair Ethernet cabling. This allows a single cable to provide both a data connection and enough electricity to power networked devices such as wireless access points (WAPs), IP cameras and various POE terminal equipment.

POE is not only suitable for indoor environments, but is actually more valuable for outdoor environments. Because the cost of wiring in outdoor environments is much higher than that in indoor environments, using POE can combine Ethernet cables and power cables into one cable to provide network backhaul and power for POE terminal devices, greatly simplifying deployment.

The following are some of the more common POE standards on the market:

IEEE 802.3af (POE) has a maximum power of 15.4W, and it is recommended to operate at 12.95W

IEEE 802.3at (POE+) has a maximum power of 30W, and it is recommended to operate at 25.5W

IEEE 802.3bt (POE++) standard,different manufacturers provide different maximum power capabilities and the largest one on the market can reach 110W. It is generally provided to 90W.

 It can be seen that there are relatively comprehensive POE standards covering different power supply requirements.

The above figure is a simplified model of a typical DC UPS POE. We can see that the system is based on a DC UPS with a lithium battery embedded. The configuration of the lithium battery is generally determined by the size of the POE terminal load and the system autonomy time after the power grid is off line. It is not recommended to configure an oversized battery, which will make the cost too high, nor is it recommended to configure an undersized battery, which will make the system autonomy time unsatisfactory. The DC UPS supplies power to the POE module, which is divided into a Layer 2 POE switch or a simple POE injector according to the scenario. In some high-demand scenarios, a monitoring module is also required to monitor the operation and management of the entire system and report to the software platform.

The organic integration of these parts forms a DC UPS POE system.

Edge Span U60-5GP for 1-3 Cameras Layer3 Aggregation with 4G/5G Backhaul

Edge Span U60-5GP is a CCTV UPS backup system designed for CCTV camera wireless backhaul deployment. CCTV camera deployment may not always be able to obtain wired uplinks such as optical fiber. In this case, 4G/5G must be used to obtain uplinks. The configuration of Edge Span U60 is as follows:

  • Edge Span U60-5GP: Layer3 router with 3 Ports LAN Ports 1000Base-T, 1 port is POE++110W, 2 ports are POE+30W.Build in UPS 300W, the battery default configuration is 48V10Ah,temperature and humidity sensor, AC input monitoring. The 4G/5G wireless module can be configured as 5G or CAT6,CAT12. This model also can be deployed as aggregation node of IoT sensors.

Edge Span U60 LSP-4 for 1-4 Cameras Layer 2 Switch Aggregation

Edge Span U60 LSP-4 is designed for low camera density scenarios with 1-4 CCTV cameras deployed. However, compared to the Edge Span U30 series, the UPS and battery configuration of Edge Span U60 LSP-4 is larger, so that 1-4 CCTV cameras can use POE+ 30W or POE++ 110W.

  • Edge Span U60-LSP-4:As UPS with POE, it has Layer 2 POE switch with 4 LAN ports 1000Base-T, 2 of which are POE++110W, and 2 are POE+ 30W. This model has a built-in UPS 300W, and the battery default configuration is 48V10Ah as well as temperature and humidity sensor, AC input monitoring.The battery, UPS, temperature and humidity inside the shell, key parameters of AC input, and POE switch operating status of this model can all be reported to the Edgeware platform for management, and can also be reported to a third-party software platform.

Edge Span U30 LSP-3 for 1-3 Cameras Layer 2 Switch Aggregation

Edge Span U30 LSP-3 is designed for low camera density scenarios with 1-3 CCTV cameras deployed. This model is designed for low-cost deployment of a small number of CCTV cameras. For UPS, the battery capacity meets the needs of general PTZ and Bullet cameras, but cannot meet the power supply of high-power PTZ cameras.

  • Edge Span U30 LSP-3: Layer 2 POE switch with 3 LAN ports 1000Base-T, all LAN ports are POE+ 30W. The UPS rated power is 100W and the battery confgiration is 48V5AH.
