What is Surveillance UPS?

Surveillance UPS refers to a UPS system specifically used in video surveillance scenarios. It generally has the ability to provide power supply and battery backup for 3-8 video surveillance cameras. Surveillance UPS generally has complete power protection and lightning protection functions to adapt to video surveillance outdoor application scenarios.

Functions and Application Scenarios That Surveillance UPS Should Have

Edgeware Video Surveillance UPS

Surveillance UPS has different application scenarios, indoors and outdoors. They need to have the following functions to meet video surveillance scenarios:

(1) A stable and reliable UPS system with a power adaptable to the load power. If the UPS capacity is too large, more unnecessary investment will be added, and the entire surveillance UPS system will be too large, thereby increasing installation and transportation costs. If the UPS capacity is too small, the fluctuation of load power will easily cause UPS output overload.

(2) Match the battery capacity required by the load autonomy time after the power grid is offline.

(3) Power supply mode suitable for video surveillance scenarios, such as 802.3at (POE+) and 802.3bt (POE++) are the best. However, some cameras require AC24V, DC48V, DC12V, etc.

Compared with the indoor version, the outdoor surveillance UPS is more complicated and has more things to consider:

(1) First of all, it must be completely waterproof. Edgeware believes that IP65 level is the best.

(2) Secondly, it is easy to install and does not require complicated wiring and integration at the station.

(3) Good lightning protection and grounding.

Understanding Surveillance UPS Architecture

Surveillance UPS Architecture

The above figure is surveillance UPS design architecture, which needs to include the following important components:

Power Supply with Lightning Protection

The system needs to design the power supply according to the needs of the video surveillance camera. Generally speaking, POE+/POE++ is the most mainstream power supply mode. DC12V, DC24V, DC48V, AC24V can also be provided if the customer needs it, but it is not recommended. Especially DC12V, DC24V are low-voltage DC power supplies, which will face complex problems such as cable voltage drop.

Surveillance UPS and Backup Battery

The system should include UPS and batteries. Their capacities need to be designed based on complex situations and ensure long-term stability.

Waterproof enclosure IP65

High-quality waterproof enclosure IP65 for long-term working stability and adaptability to complex environment.

Monitoring and management

For those with monitoring and management needs, the monitoring and management module should be embedded.
