What is UPS with POE and its application?
A general UPS system is an independent power supply system, whose input and output are both AC or DC voltage. However, these traditional UPS cannot adapt well to the POE terminal scenario. Devices such as UPS and POE switch need to be connected and networked to form a complete system. This greatly increases the complexity of deployment, especially when the target scenario is outdoor. It is much more troublesome to connect and debug the UPS and POE switch at the site than indoors. UPS with POE is a UPS device specially designed for power backup for POE devices. It is well integrated and highly integrated. This makes power backup of POE devices at outdoor sites simple and fast.
UPS with POE System Compare with Traditional UPS
The above figure is a comparison between traditional UPS and all in one UPS with POE solution. It can be found that the traditional UPS solution has the following problems if it wants to build a UPS system based on POE function:
- It is a patchwork system, which is composed of different components from different manufacturers
Because it is a patchwork system, it needs to be integrated, installed, and debugged by the customer at the site. This makes the work at the site very cumbersome, and the CCTV camera site is often far away from the HQ. If there is any problem, it will be sent back and forth between the headquarters and the site, which will greatly delay the time for the site to go online. And because it is a patchwork system, the matching degree between different manufacturers and the reliability of the final system are the responsibility of the customer.
- The system has to become too large
In the market, traditional UPS solutions are often large, such as 1KVA is a common specification. These UPS are tower type or 19-inch rack type. However, the power of POE scenarios such as CCTV or WIFI AP is not particularly large. For example, the power of 8-way cameras basically does not exceed 300W. At this time, the common solution of 1KVA will cause the outdoor cabinet to be enlarged accordingly. The cost of the outdoor cabinet being too large is the high cost of transportation and installation to the site. In many cases, pole installation even requires a crane.
- The internal cables are complex and not convenient for future maintenance
The traditional UPS solution needs to be connected to the POE switch, IoT router, battery, etc. These connections are relatively complex and not convenient for long-term maintenance. Especially after many years, some sites will become messy after debugging and maintenance. This will cause great trouble to maintenance engineers.
Compared with traditional solutions, the all in one UPS with POE solution greatly simplifies the entire design:
- The all in one solution is provided by a single supplier, and the customer responsibility interface is clear
The all in one UPS with POE is designed, tested and delivered by the supplier as a whole, and the customer is only responsible for use. So when problems arise, it is clear that it is the supplier’s responsibility. At the same time, because the product has been designed and tested by the supplier, it is a standard product when delivered and can be plugged and played at the site. Greatly reduce installation and testing costs.
- The system is designed based on customer scenarios, with appropriate size and capacity
All in one UPS with POE is designed based on customer scenarios. For example, if a customer needs a 300W UPS, a 1KVA UPS will not be provided to the customer. The battery is also configured according to the customer’s needs. Other components such as POE switch or router are highly integrated modules. The capacity of the final delivered solution just meets the customer’s needs, and there is no need to pay for procurement and space costs for unnecessary additional capacity. As a result, the size and weight of the final delivered solution are much smaller than traditional solutions. This further reduces the cost of transportation to the site and the installation cost during actual installation. In many scenarios, two engineers can complete the installation work without the need for complex work such as cranes.
- The supplier delivers all in one standard products, and customers do not need to worry about internal cable maintenance issues.
Customers are only responsible for using the entire system and do not need to maintain the cables inside the system. In addition, the systems designed by Edgeware are generally highly integrated and mainly based on PCB, so there is no need to worry about cables and maintenance. This greatly reduces the maintenance costs of customers. The entire system is basically a maintenance-free system.
Typical Functional Units of UPS with POE
The Edge Span series developed by Edgeware is shown above. It can be used as a typical All in one UPS with POE. Its overall shell adopts IP65 grade cast aluminum shell, which is rust-proof and rain-proof. It integrates UPS module, battery module, POE switch (or POE Router), perfect lightning protection, and complete POE capability (802.3at and 802.3bt).
