What is UPS for IP Camera?

PoE

The obvious difference between IP camera and analog camera is that it uses Ethernet port to transmit data, so Power over Ethernet (PoE) is the best way to power IP Camera. Therefore, UPS for IP camera generally must have PoE power supply.

Layer 2 Aggregation or Routing Functions

Considering that there are usually multiple IP cameras at a single site, UPS for IP generally has layer 2 aggregation function to achieve the purpose of aggregating and forwarding traffic from multiple cameras. Of course, routing functions can also be configured if necessary.

UPS and Battery

UPS for IP camera must also be configured with UPS and battery. In the IP camera scenario, even if there are 8 IP cameras at a single site, the total power consumption will generally exceed 300W, so configuring a UPS with appropriate capacity is also very important for system size and cost. The size of the battery capacity depends on the system autonomy time of the entire system design. It can be obtained through calculation.

Surge Protection

For outdoor deployment, perfect surge protection must be designed. For UPS for IP camera scenarios, perfect lightning protection must be provided for various signal interfaces such as AC input and POE output to ensure the stability of the entire system in long-term outdoor operation.

Environmental Adaptability

UPS for IP camera needs to have strong environmental adaptability. Because IP camera may be deployed in any complex environment. For example, in high-heat, high-humidity, or dusty environments, you may need to consider IP65 ingress protection systems. For less challenging environments, IP55 level solutions can be used.
